Brent Verheyen with Ulysse De Pauw and Stéphane Lémeret

It was not really the same without. In Mettet, the famous VW Fun Cup #2 of DRM Motorsport was conspicuous by its absence. For the first time since 2016, the famous number so dear to the Brussels team was not at the start of a round of the European VW Fun Cup. To be honest, the absence of the #2 in Mettet was a bit of a blow," says Matthieu de Robiano, the man behind DRM. "We managed to put together a team for two races, namely Zandvoort and the famous 25 Hours VW Fun Cup. The #2 will again play a leading role and we are very happy about that. We now have three cars that can go for the final victory.

The newcomer at #2 and at DRM Motorsport is a name to remember for years to come. Brent Verheyen is one of the most promising drivers in Belgian motorsport. The 19-year-old from Limburg finished second in the Belcar Championship last season at the wheel of a Norma prototype and has chosen DRM to compete twice in the VW Fun Cup this season. "It's a return to my roots for me, as I made my motorsport debut through the VW Fun Cup in 2020," Brent recalls. "Back then I raced in a biplane to gain experience in racing. This time, however, I don't want to be a figurehead, but rather a frontrunner. I am very happy to race for DRM Motorsport, especially in the #2 car, which is a mythical car in the championship. Furthermore, I will be racing with two of the best drivers in the championship. You can't get a better offer."

It is no secret that Ulysse De Pauw is one of the fastest drivers in the field. Last year, the former RACB National Team driver missed two meetings and finished second in the Hankook Qualifying Trophy. He recently announced a programme with Ferrari in the GT World Challenge, but that will alternate with races in the car with which he was so successful in 2021. "It is always a real pleasure for me to race for DRM Motorsport," said Ulysse. "I consider this team a real family and I am looking forward to meeting them again after a long winter break. Together with Stéphane and Brent, we will do everything we can to bring back a trophy for Matthieu who is currently recovering from his accident in Imola."

He was part of the crew that gave DRM Motorsport its first overall podium at the 2018 Franco Fun Festival. Stéphane Lémeret has since become a familiar figure within the team based not far from Hoogte Honderd in Brussels. Alongside the two young wolves, Ulysse and Brent, his extensive experience will play a crucial role in bringing the #2 new laurels. "In 2021 we had the speed to win the general classification," Stéphane says. "We proved that by winning the race in the prelude to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But success has not always been on our side in the Belgian championship. However, we are determined to shine again in Zandvoort and at the 25 Hours. Ulysse's speed is impressive and Brent has shown great things during trackdays. We hold all the cards to finally win the European VW Fun Cup. We will also remember Matthieu, who should have raced with us but had to give up for reasons we all know."

Meet up on 23 and 24 April at the Benelux Open Races in Zandvoort to see the #2 and all the other VW Fun Cups from DRM Motorsport in action!
