Brent Verheyen made his debut this weekend on the Norma M20 FC of GHK Racing by T2. Brent was joined on the car by father Guy and team owner Pieder, a combination that concluded their very first race with a podium in the class. How a weekend with high expectations seemed to end in a minor key, but was finally crowned with a podium...
"It's been a bit of a bizarre year," says Guy Verheyen. "Zolder unexpectedly organized a season opener, which T2 Racing had to pass up because they had to come from Switzerland. We were not present in Assen and so we were extra keen to perform well at the third meeting. Regular teammate Chris Mattheus was unable to attend due to corona measures and so we pushed Brent forward. He tested the Norma for the first time this week, in particularly difficult conditions, but he was actually fast right away. Apart from a small spin and some steering errors here and he stayed out of trouble Secretly we hoped for a podium in the class today, but we knew that would be difficult with the competition. Brent, however, carried out the assignment that was communicated to him perfectly and kept constant times. Too bad about that mechanical problem in the closing hour, because otherwise we could have ended on the general podium! "
Brent was also a satisfied man after the race, despite the sudden technical problems. “I turned into the Observatory corner and had the impression that something broke on the suspension. the team indicated that the problem could not be remedied, but when it turned out that we could compete for the podium in the class, T2 Racing gave it all and we were finally able to return to the track. Two or three laps later, however a gear shift problem and towards the end of the race I suddenly saw some raindrops, after which I lowered the pace. I really had a good time today and this race tastes like more. Only downside was the norm time,
